Gymnasts' Walk

A row of 15 bronze busts, unveiled in 2008 at the foot of Deva Citadel, honouring the gymnasts and coaches who made Deva a world centre of gymnastics.

Aleea Gimnastelor (“the gymnasts' walk”) was unveiled in 2008 at the base of Deva Citadel, right in front of the hall where the national women's gymnastics team trains, next to the cable car's lower station. The walk has 15 bronze busts about 42-43 cm tall, made by the artist Ioan Șeu, cast at a foundry in Bucharest and set on 1.80 m granite pedestals.

The ensemble includes four busts of coaches — the couples Marta and Bela Karolyi, and Mariana Bitang and Octavian Bellu — and 11 busts of gymnasts, including Nadia Comăneci, Lavinia Agache, Ecaterina Szabo, Daniela Silivaș, Monica Roșu and Andreea Răducan. The walk marks the record of Deva's gymnastics school, where the national team moved in 1978, from Onești.

On 22 April 2026, Deva Local Council approved three more busts, in marble — of gymnasts Sandra Izbașa and Cătălina Ponor and of coach Nicolae Forminte — which will be added to the ensemble. As of early October 2026, no date had been announced for their unveiling.
