Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art, Orăștie

A collection of nearly 8,000 ethnographic and folk-art items, in a historic-monument building downtown.

The museum was founded in 1952, on the initiative of a group of local enthusiasts who assembled its first collections. In 1974 its focus shifted toward folk art, and since 1991 it has operated as a section of the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation in Deva. The building it occupies, dating from the first half of the 20th century, is itself a listed historic monument.

The collection, of about 8,000 cultural items, includes ethnographic and folk-art pieces (tools, ceramics, costumes, icons on wood and glass), alongside history, archaeology and numismatics holdings, plus a documentary library of roughly 5,000 volumes.
