Moților Pantheon, Țebea

The heroes' cemetery in Țebea, with Avram Iancu's grave and the famous Horea's Oak.

The Moților Pantheon (Pantheon of the Moți) is the name by which the Heroes' Cemetery of Țebea is known, a memorial complex beside the E79 European road. It holds the village church, the graves of the 1848 revolutionaries Avram Iancu, Ioan Buteanu and Simeon Groza, graves and crosses of heroes of the War of Independence and the two world wars, and Horea's Oak. Țebea is regarded as the capital of the Zarand Country.

The complex stands on a mound, around the church. About 15 m west of the church is Avram Iancu's grave, considered the centre of the complex, and south of it stands Horea's Oak — in fact a pedunculate oak about 400 years old, with a 9 m circumference. According to tradition, it was under this tree that Horea called the assembled Moți to arms in 1784.

The trunk, weakened over time, was bound with steel hoops in 1924 and, during the 1947 restoration, covered in cement, with the bark pattern modelled by the sculptor Radu Moga-Mânzat.
