Bejan Forest

A 70 ha forest reserve near Deva, home to eight of Romania's nine native oak species growing side by side.

Pădurea Bejan is a forest-type nature reserve declared under Law no. 5 of 6 March 2000, covering 70 ha within Deva's administrative territory, on county road DJ708E from Almașu Sec. It is classified as IUCN category IV (habitat/species management area).

Its scientific value comes from the coexistence of eight of Romania's nine native oak (Quercus) species, which over time have produced hybrids rarely found elsewhere. Rare plants recorded here include fraxinella (Dictamnus albus), while the fauna includes roe deer, pine marten, European hare, the Aesculapian snake and the yellow-bellied toad.
