Slivuț Forest

A 40 ha oak forest near Hațeg, with a European bison reserve since 1958.

Slivuț Forest is a nationally protected area (IUCN category IV, botanical reserve) of 40 ha near the town of Hațeg, included in the “Hațeg Country” Dinosaur Geopark. It is a natural ecosystem of xerophilous oak woods, a remnant of vast original oak forests cleared as farming spread over the hills at the edge of the Hațeg depression.

Since 1958 a European bison reserve has operated in the forest, in the custody of the Deva Forestry Directorate through the Hațeg Forest District.
