Lunca Cernii de Jos

A mountain commune in the Poiana Ruscă range, on the Cerna valley, with the Cerna Gorge and eight villages scattered through the Pădureni Land.

Lunca Cernii de Jos is a commune in the Poiana Ruscă Mountains, made up of the villages of Lunca Cernii de Jos (the seat), Ciumița, Fântâna, Gura Bordului, Lunca Cernii de Sus, Meria, Negoiu and Valea Babii. It is one of the largest and least populated communes in the county, with forests, valleys and mountain villages.

The “Cerna Gorge” nature reserve (2 ha) is a gorge cut by the Cerna river through the crystalline schists of Poiana Ruscă, part of the Natura 2000 network. The commune also lies in the “Pădureni Land” site, home to the pădureni and their traditions kept alive in the mountain villages.
