Deva Citadel cable car stays closed; reach the citadel by electric bus or on foot
The nearly €4 million installation has been out of service since November 2025; in October, specialists from a foreign company are coming to look for a fix.

The cable car up Deva's Citadel Hill has been stopped since November 2025 because of faults in several pieces of equipment. The installation, with 30-seat cabins, cost almost €4 million from the city budget. It was inaugurated in its current form at the end of March 2024, but was shut down for technical reasons one day after it opened, and was closed again for repairs between January and May 2025.
According to mayor Lucian Rus, specialists from a foreign company have agreed to meet a Deva City Hall working group in October to identify the problems and propose a solution. The Romanian contractor has already replaced some components, but the cable car will not be restarted without the experts' approval. The mayor hopes it will be running again by next spring.
Until then, visitors can reach Gate 1 of Deva Citadel by electric bus, or walk up one of the three marked trails on Citadel Hill.
