Bănița Dacian fortress reopened to visitors with a new themed trail
Since 1 August 2026, the UNESCO-listed fortress by the Bănița Gorge has a marked, improved trail: 570 m, about 40 minutes uphill.

The Dacian fortress at Bănița, one of the Orăștie Mountains fortresses on the UNESCO World Heritage list, can be visited since 1 August 2026 on the marked and improved “Bănița Fortress” themed trail. The route crosses the Bănița Gorge, then continues through the forest on a steep track.
It is 570 m long, with a 104 m height difference and medium difficulty; the climb takes about 40 minutes. The organisers recommend proper hiking gear, following the markings and signs, and respecting the cultural heritage and nature. The trail was opened to the public by the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation in Deva, together with Bănița town hall, the Grădiștea Muncelului-Cioclovina Natural Park, Romsilva and Salvamont Hunedoara.
