Church of the Holy Archangels, Bozeș

A former stone court chapel from the early 16th century, in a hill village near Geoagiu-Băi.

The village of Bozeș, part of the town of Geoagiu, keeps a stone church with a rectangular nave and a narrower five-sided apse, built — according to local tradition — in the early 16th century by one of the Romanian princes or boyars from south of the Carpathians who then held the Lower Geoagiu estate, Bozeș included.

First intended as a court chapel, the church was painted in the late 18th century by an anonymous folk painter. The village is close to the Geoagiu-Băi spa, so the church makes an easy outing from the resort.
