Wooden Church, Birtin
A wooden church from 1690, “in the days of Michael Apafi, king of Transylvania”, with icons by Stan the Painter.

The wooden Church of the Annunciation in Birtin stands on one of the village's gentle hills. The inscription cut above the door to the nave reads: “This holy church was made in the days of Michael Apafi, king of Transylvania, in the year of the Lord 1690, the 20th day of April, priest Lazăr”. The massive wall logs rest directly on the ground and are joined with dovetails.
The royal doors, with the Annunciation and the Evangelists, were painted in 1740 by Gligorie Moldovan, and in 1772 Stan the Painter, son of the priest Radu of Rășinari, painted the iconostasis's row of main icons. The walls were repainted in the first half of the 19th century.
