Wooden church
Wooden Church, Ciungani
A wooden church from around 1600, with the tallest tower of any wooden church in Hunedoara county — 14 m.

On Zapoza hill in the village of Ciungani, in the Zarand Country, stands the wooden Church of the Annunciation, built by tradition around 1600 — a date its archaic plan supports. In 1755 it was described as “wooden, old, unconsecrated”. The steep roof and the 14 m spire of its bell tower — the tallest among the county's wooden churches — are covered in shingles.
Inside there are two layers of murals: those painted in 1782 by Iosif the Painter, almost entirely covered in 1810 by the work of Ioan of Poiana Sibiului and Mihai Borșoș.
