Medieval Church, Peșteana
A 13th-century stone church built with reused Roman blocks, a few kilometres from Densuș.

In the middle of Peșteana, recorded in 1360 through its priest “Balk de Possana”, stands the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, a witness to the old knez families of the Hațeg Country. It has a rectangular nave, a Romanesque-style altar and a bell tower on the west side, and was built with massive stone blocks taken from ruined Roman buildings.
Excavations revealed two building phases: a first court chapel with a semicircular altar, and a larger 13th-century church, to which the portal under the bell tower belongs. The 1925–1926 restoration by architect Rudolf Wagner changed its look considerably — the plaster decoration with round niches and the upper storey of the tower date from then.
