Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Ponor

A stone church from 1769, painted in 1846, in the village below the Șureanu where the Ponori knezes lived.

Ponor, a village of Pui commune at the south-western foot of the Șureanu Mountains, was the seat of the Romanian knez family Ponori. The stone Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit was built in 1769 on land at the edge of the village given to the community by the Reformed noble family Török, who wanted to build their own church on the site of the old one.

It has a rectangular plan, a semicircular apse and a slender bell tower with an open wooden gallery. The interior was painted in 1846, and the 1883 restoration has kept it in good condition to this day.
