Bănița Dacian Fortress
A Dacian fortress on Piatra Cetății by the Bănița Gorge, UNESCO World Heritage; since 2026 reached by a marked themed trail.

The Dacian fortress at Bănița stands on Piatra Cetății, at about 902 m altitude, next to the Bănița Gorge. It is one of the six Dacian fortresses of the Orăștie Mountains that joined the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999, alongside Sarmizegetusa Regia, Costești-Cetățuie, Costești-Blidaru, Piatra Roșie and Căpâlna.
Since 1 August 2026 the fortress can be visited on the marked and improved “Bănița Fortress” themed trail, which crosses the Bănița Gorge and continues through the forest on a steep track: 570 m, a 104 m height difference, medium difficulty, about 40 minutes uphill. The trail was opened to the public by the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation in Deva, together with Bănița town hall, the Grădiștea Muncelului–Cioclovina Natural Park, Romsilva and Salvamont Hunedoara.
