Reservoir lake

Lake Valea de Pești

A 2.5 km mountain lake behind a 56 m dam near Câmpu lui Neag — the Jiu Valley's water reserve.

The Valea de Pești dam was built between 1967 and 1973 on the river of the same name, near Câmpu lui Neag, and stands 56 m high. Behind it lies a reservoir 2.5 km long, covering 31 ha and up to 53 m deep, at 830 m above sea level.

The lake supplies water to the Jiu Valley, and at high water it also helps generate power and soften floods. Pike, catfish, carp, barbel and chub live in it. The new mountain road to Runcu (Gorj), through the Sohodol Gorges, runs past the lake.
