Brad is the historic centre of gold mining in the Metaliferi Mountains. It houses the Gold Museum, one of the few museums of its kind in the world, and nearby lies Săcărâmb, known in mineralogy as the discovery site (1835) of sylvanite, a rare gold-silver mineral.
