Ruins Trail
A 12 km trail from Vulcan to Aninoasa along Valea Ungurului, with a monastery, waterfall and ruins.
Traseul Ruinelor (“the ruins trail”) is the longest of five themed trails set up in 2022 near Vulcan (a Pro Montana project, with Vulcan Town Hall and Salvamont Hunedoara). It starts in Vulcan and follows the Valea Ungurului stream to Aninoasa, covering about 12 km at moderate difficulty.
Along the way lie Sf. Nicolae Monastery, Cascada Ungurului waterfall, a rock formation known as the Sphinx of Valea Ungurului, and several historic stone ruins — which give the trail its name.
