Orăștioara de Sus
The commune at the heart of the Dacian fortresses, with Sarmizegetusa Regia, Costești–Blidaru, Costești–Cetățuie and Fețele Albe, all UNESCO-listed.

Orăștioara de Sus is a commune in the Orăștie Mountains, made up of the villages of Orăștioara de Sus (the seat), Bucium, Costești, Costești-Deal, Grădiștea de Munte, Ludeștii de Jos, Ludeștii de Sus and Ocolișu Mic. Much of the Dacian fortresses of the Orăștie Mountains, on the UNESCO World Heritage List, lie within its territory.
At Grădiștea de Munte lies the Dacian settlement of Sarmizegetusa Regia, the capital of the Dacian kingdom, and the Fețele Albe area has further Dacian remains. Costești has the Dacian fortresses of Costești–Blidaru and Costești–Cetățuie, while Bucium, Grădiștea de Munte and Costești-Deal keep Roman forts and Dacian fortifications.
The commune is part of the Grădiștea Muncelului–Cioclovina Nature Park. The churches of Orăștioara de Sus (1794), Bucium (1892–1900) and Ludeștii de Jos (1902) complete the local heritage.
